Classes in Health Science

In the new Bachelors of Science in Health Science Program at GHC, disease prevention is presented in the form of preventative care in this class. While our system is busy thrying to treat disease, it would be beneficial to Americans and the efficiency of our healthcare system. In this class, I leaned spiritual, social, emotional, intellectual, environmental, and occupational wellness.

This is the class that changed the trajectory of my professional career. I learned about healthcare policies and the process of the creation of a new policy. I wrote a policy introducing a program like Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) Program and embedding it into Medicare. It was a very reasonable (attainable) policy. I realized how broken our system is, and I don't hav e atrue passion for healthcare. I decided to complete my degree and then figure it out. 

I took this class when I had to treat for precancer on my face and chest. It inspired me to document my story on social media and try to raise awareness. It came at the perfect time. I did my project for this class on a very personal issue and it has served me well.

I had no idea what I was getting into when I entered this class. This class was one of the most time consuming classes I took when I was at Georgia Highlands College. I appreciate being able to go back and remember what I accomplished in each class and how they each formed me into the person I am today. I took advantage of my time in this class by seeking out an internship in the Georgia Highlands College Athletic Department

For this class, I had no idea what I was walking into. I learned about epidemiology, method used to find causes of health outcomes and diseases in populations. The knowledge learned in this class will relate to the proposed BSHS on more of an individual level and how to protect yourself to protect the community.

This class was a preface into writing a lesson plan, or a course. I believe this class is one I will reference regularly in my academic career. My plan is to teach while I'm in graduate school and into my doctorate education.

This class was a recap of all I've learned about scientific research through the undergraduate research program at GHC. I know for a fact that I will use this foundations of this class through my academic career both as a student and a faculty member. I learned about the Tuskegee experiments in this class and what contributed to the implementation of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and autonomy. 

This class helped me put team work into professionalism. This is not a new concept for me, but how it is approached was. Interprofessional collaboration should be universal. I use it in everyday life now. I used it before, but now I make a conscience effort.
