Undergraduate Research
GHC & Lake Allatoona

I found myself in the Georgia Highlands College Undergraduate program completely on accident. I reached out to one of the professors involved in the research and attended an information session. I knew I wanted to be involved, if only for the prestige on my CV. This let to my 120-hour internship followed by an offer for a student lab assistant position. That afforded me the opportunity to show my work ethic, and I landed myself a full-time position in the STEM department at Georgia Highlands College. This undergraduate research program was a life-line to my networking skills

Creating and Implementing Safety Protocols

I spent my time in the undergraduate research lab supervising students by being present in the lab for any questions or concerns students might have regarding the research in the undergraduate lab while completing tasks. I took care of all lab equipment by performing and delegating weekly maintenance on all undergraduate research lab equipment. I created almost all the safety protocols still currently in use in the research lab.

Process Development

I spent time compiling data into one central location for future transfer to a more sophisticated program utilizing appropriate software. I created a blog to document all the rules and instructions for all facets of the program including protocols, rules and responsibilities, and a showcase of all past participants. Feel free to click the UGR Blog button to peruse the blog.

Protocol Design

I worked on creating chemical inventory lists and instructing students on how to account for chemicals and supplies used during undergraduate research. Compiling orders and coordinating the procurement of necessary supplies for the undergraduate research lab was one of the main responsibilities of the student lab assistant. I also spent time designing templates-planning and implementing templates for all lab and field notebooks for an undergraduate research program.
